I thought I was being frugal by re-purposing my stained or torn clothing into rags until my sister gave me this great tip! Before you put the clothes in the rag bin, cut off any buttons. Before long you'll have a nice collection to use for repairs, sewing, or crafting. Never buy buttons again!
